Launched in 2012, DAF has simplified the description of its top cab, leaving behind the 95 and 105 in favor of the XF. The Euro 6 XF, for example, is a modern-looking truck that is roomier than the XF105. Since its initial launch, DAF has added new features, including a low-ride option for overheight trailer operation in Europe with a fifth wheel height of just 91 centimetres.
Predictive cruise control has been available as an option since 2015. The DAF system uses GPS to look about two kilometres ahead and is able to drive optimally within the parameters set by the driver, including upshifting and downshifting. Powered by PACCAR’s MX13 13-litre engine, rated at 410, 460, and 510bhp, the DAF XF does not compete with the Swedish top-powered trucks, but makes a very economical choice. It is available in a low-ride 4x2 version, ideally suited to high-volume operations.
